Addiction Recovery Foundation

Provides advice, support and guidance to anyone affected by the use of legal or illegal drugs, alcohol and smoking. Also provides guidance to those experiencing problems around eating disorders, gambling and sex addiction. Provides details of self help groups and detoxification centres.
Educates health professionals and others working with people with drug and alcohol problems. Promotes and assists in the teaching or training of anyone engaged in the care or treatment of people with addiction or dependency problems.
Conducts and promotes research into the care and treatment of people with addiction or dependency problems and disseminating these findings.

Adfam

Adfam is a national charity working with families affected by drugs and alcohol and is a leading agency in substance related family work. Adfam provide a range of publications and resources for families about substances and criminal justice. They also operate an online message board and database of local support groups that helps families hear about and talk to people who understand their situation. Adfam runs direct support services at London prisons for families of prisoners with drug problems that need to talk about prison and drugs. A list of publications is available via the website.

Alcohol Concern

Alcohol Concern is the national agency on alcohol misuse. They work to reduce the incidence and costs of alcohol-related harm and to increase the range and quality of services available to people with alcohol-related problems.

Alcohol Concern provide information and encourage debate on the wide range of public policy issues affected by alcohol; including public health, housing, children and families, crime and licensing. They support specialist and non-specialist service providers helping to tackle alcohol problems at a local level, whilst also working to influence national alcohol policy

Alcoholics Anonymous

Alcoholics Anonymous is a fellowship of men and women who share their experience, strength and hope with each other that they may solve their common problem and help others to recover from alcoholism.

The only requirement for membership is a desire to stop drinking. There are no dues or fees for A.A. membership; they are self-supporting through their own contributions. A.A. is not allied with any sect, denomination, politics, organization or institution; does not wish to engage in any controversy; neither endorses nor opposes any causes. Its’ primary purpose is to stay sober and help other alcoholics to achieve sobriety.

National Treatment Agency For Substance Misuse

The NTA is a special health authority established in 2001 to increase the availability, capacity and effectiveness of treatment for drug misuse in England by:
