They are a user led organisation which means people with arthritis are at the heart of their work, form their membership, are involved in all of their activities and direct what they do.

Their helplines team offers practical, confidential support backed up by a wealth of useful publications, including Arthritis News, their bi-monthly magazine. They run a range of self-management and personal development programmes, giving people the confidence and skills to manage their arthritis and dramatically improve their quality of life.

Arthritis Research Campaign

The Arthritis Research Campaign (arc), founded in 1936, raises funds to promote medical research into the cause, treatment and cure of arthritic conditions; to educate medical students, doctors and allied healthcare professionals about arthritis; and provide information to the general public.

arc is the fourth largest medical research charity in the UK and the only charity in the UK solely dedicated to investigating arthritis in all its forms. Millions of pounds are provided every year for grants funding research, education and training.

BackCare

BackCare is an independent national charity that helps people manage and prevent back pain by:-

  • providing evidence-based information via their website, facts sheets, publications and Talkback magazine.
  • promoting best practice in the prevention and management of back pain
  • funding research into the causes, treatments and management of back pain

BackCare represents people with back pain, a broad range of health professionals treating back pain, researchers and employers and is uniquely placed to act as a conduit for information exchange and debate.

Brittle Bone Society

Founded in Dundee in 1968 the Brittle Bone Society is the only UK wide organisation providing support to people affected by the rare bone condition Osteogenesis Imperfecta (OI). Still based in Dundee the BBS now has around 1,000 members. They offer help, support and advice to anyone affected by OI, including family, carers, social workers and other professionals.

National Ankylosing Spondylitis Society

If you are suffering from ankylosing spondylitis you may well have various questions about the disease. The National Ankylosing Spondylitis Society (NASS) have produced a website to answer the questions patients most frequently ask. National Osteoporosis Society

The National Osteoporosis Society is the only national charity dedicated to improving the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of this fragile bone disease. In the United Kingdom, one in two women and one in five men will break a bone, mainly because of osteoporosis. The NOS has a unique role. It draws together the many health and social care disciplines involved in osteoporosis together with 25,000 members, more than 1,000 volunteers and 44 staff to provide unrivalled expertise.

National Rheumatoid Arthritis Society

National Rheumatoid Arthritis Society provides support and information for people with Rheumatoid Arthritis and Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis, their families, friends and carers, and health professionals with an interest in Rheumatoid Arthritis. NRAS provide you with a comprehensive information and support service which encompasses everything you might want to know about rheumatoid arthritis, living with the disease and coping with the impact on your quality of life this causes.

Scoliosis Association

The Scoliosis Association (UK) was founded in 1981. It is the only independent support group for scoliosis in the UK. There is no cure for scoliosis, only corrective treatment for the twisting and curving spine. SAUK aims to provide information about scoliosis, eliminate fear and stigma, and offer contacts for shared experiences.

The UK Gout Society is a registered charity, launched in December 2002.
