OUR COMPANY

Internet Pharmacy Ltd was established in June 2000 and soon after an application for a new pharmacy contract at 120 Bury New Road, Heywood was made to the Local Health Authority. Twelve months later the contract was formally approved and the company began trading.

The company was formed as a partnership between a Pharmacist Mr Darren Bagshaw and a number of local GP’s.

In October 2001 a local independent pharmacist announced that he was to retire and Internet Pharmacy Ltd was able to acquire its second branch, at 50 Manchester Road, also in the Heywood area.

At this time Mrs Gaynor Bagshaw returned from maternity leave to join the management team and during 2003 Michael Johnson joined the company to manage the Manchester Road branch. The addition of the two to the management team has enabled rapid expansion of the company and development of new initiatives including weight loss clinics, smoking cessation, extensive nursing/residential home services, and minor ailments service. During 2004 Darren and Michael also completed a supplementary prescriber course to enable them to prescribe medicines following an agreed protocol.

Investors In People Award, achieved in 2004, was a sign of the company's desire to train for the future development of the company. This award was updated in 2007.

In 2005, upon closure of a local post office it became possible to double the size of the Bury New Road branch and also to incorporate a consulting room and to directly connect the branch to the local doctor's surgery.

Due to the growth of the business in each of the two locations, the initial company objective to build a website had been delayed but due to changes in contract Darren decided that 2007 was the year to make the idea a reality.

A new contract application was delivered to the PCT in May 2007, approved in October 2007.

A complete refurbishment programme was then necessary on the first floor of 50 Manchester Road, the new home for ‘InternetPharmacyOnline.co.uk’.
