The charges you pay depend on your status rather than the value of the medication being supplied to you. A private prescription is a prescription that is issued by a doctor normally following a private consultation. With a private prescription the patient needs to pay for the actual costs of the drugs prescribed and not just the standard NHS fee. A private prescription may be dispensed at any pharmacy subject to the prescription meeting the necessary legal requirements. The amount you pay is dependent on the value of the items being dispensed.
